The annotation of texts with Arabic rhetorical devices requires standardised reference taxonomies for identifying, naming, and classifying rhetorical devices. These standardised taxonomies form the basis of all rhetorical annotations within the Balagha Corpus.
The Balagha Corpus is designed to support multiple taxonomies, each providing a structured reference for identifying and classifying rhetorical devices in Arabic texts. Each taxonomy is versioned and assigned a permanent DOI to ensure consistent reproducibility in academic research. Future taxonomies may be added as the field evolves, allowing researchers to adopt or develop alternative systems of rhetorical classification.
